Communication – is key to picking a good lawnmowing company. Lawn mowing companies are not well known for their customer service and response times. It is really nice when there is great communication either through text or calls of when the lawn mowing is going to happen and if something comes up that changes the company notifies you. Nothing is more frustrating than waiting at home for the lawn mowing guys to come and they are late and you have not heard anything and you have other things to go and do. Good response time is also really nice to see in a lawn mowing company because if you call and leave a voicemail you would like to be called back within an hour and not the next day.
Reviews and experience – really are good signs of a good lawn mowing company. If a company has lots of good Google my business reviews then they are doing something right. I also would look to see how many years of experience they claim to have. I would be wary of any lawn mowing company that does not have at least 3 years experience. Don’t be too skeptical if there is a bad review or two mixed in with the good ones because that is normal to see. A company is not going to please everyone every time and of course, there are some people out there that have unreal expectations that you are not always going to be able to win over. I actually think it is a good thing to see a bad review in a company’s reviews because it means that most likely all the other reviews are legit and not bought or fudged with. Google is pretty good at sniffing out fake reviews and companies that are trying to game the system but it is not entirely impossible to scam the review system. So the next place I would look to check that lawn mowing company is legit is their photos of the jobs they have done. If I see good reviews and good pictures it is safe to say I would trust in that lawn company.
Maintenance of the equipment – Good lawn mowing companies use good equipment. They also take good care of their equipment with regular maintenance and sharpening their lawnmower blades. Lawnmower blade sharpening is probably the most important thing a lawn mowing company can do and should be done every ten to fifteen hours of use. This ensures the blades are sharp and cut the grass cleanly which promotes healthy grass blades and makes it look better. If lawn mower blades are dull they can leave the grass with rugged yellow ends that can hurt the grass blades and make the lawn have a yellowish brown color to them even if they are getting a good amount of water. Ask your potential lawn mowing company if they sharpen their blades and how often and if they say anything more than 20 hours of use maybe they are not the best lawn mowing company option for you.
Licensed and Insured – It is really important to make sure the lawn mowing company you choose is an actual business and registered with the state and that they have commercial insurance. So being licensed with the state means that business has a business name setup and is set up with tax id to pay their taxes. Commercial insurance means that the company will be covered if an accident or damage happens to your property, people, or workers. Even good lawn mowing companies can hit sprinkler heads that are hidden or that were placed improperly above the ground. Another common thing that happens is that weed whackers can kick up rocks that could do damage to windows or property. So no matter how good the company is accidents can still happen and as long as the lawn mowing company has good commercial insurance they will be able to cover the damage and you the client will not have to be stuck paying the bill. So make sure to ask your potential lawn mowing company if they are insured and how that process would work if there was damage done.
